Quick Start Guide

1. Add folders to watch

FileMason monitors folders you choose and automatically organizes new files:

  1. Click the + button in the sidebar under Watched Folders
  2. Select a folder (Downloads, Desktop, or any custom folder)
  3. The folder will start being monitored immediately (green indicator)

2. Create your first rule

Rules define what happens to files that match certain conditions:

  1. Click New Rule in the toolbar
  2. Give your rule a descriptive name
  3. Add conditions using the dropdown menu
  4. Add actions using the dropdown menu
  5. Save the rule

3. Let FileMason work

  • New files matching your rules are organized automatically
  • Use Organize Now in the toolbar to process existing files
  • Check History in the sidebar to see what was organized

Rule Priority System

When multiple rules could match the same file, the first matching rule wins.

  • Rules are executed in the order shown in the list
  • Each rule has a number (1, 2, 3…) indicating its position
  • Drag and drop rules to reorder them

Processed File Tracking

FileMason marks processed files to avoid duplicates. To reprocess files:

  1. Right-click on a folder in the sidebar
  2. Select Reset Processed Files

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why isnt my file being organized?

Check: 1) The rule is active, 2) The file matches all conditions, 3) The file wasnt processed before, 4) The folder is being monitored.

How do I reprocess already organized files?

Right-click on the folder and select Reset Processed Files.

Can I undo an action?

Yes. Go to History and click the undo button.

Why did my file go to the wrong folder?

Check rule priority. The first matching rule wins.

Does FileMason work when closed?

No. FileMason needs to be running. Enable Launch at Login in Settings.

What languages does FileMason support?

English, Spanish, German, French, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.

Is FileMason secure?

Yes. FileMason is built 100% for the Mac App Store and only accesses folders with your permission.

Can I use regular expressions?

Yes. In name conditions you can use Name matches for regex.
